This 1673 view of New Amsterdam (later New York) was published towards the end of the 17th century in the topographical volume "Orbis Habitabilis." Ships and small boats fill the foreground with a view of New Amsterdam beyond. The weigh house is incorrectly placed to the south of the Custom House bridge--a location where the Custom House Market was erected in 1677. The background here is very similar to another Allard view (54.90.670, an image where native Americans are shown in the foreground).
