This subject shown here was both a phyician and rector of St. John's, Wapping. His innovative treatments for patients suffering from mental illness had some success, leading him to be called to attend George III in 1788, when the king began to show signs of madness. Willis's treatments would be considered harsh today, but were kinder than the norm during his own day. When the king recovered in 1789, Willis became much sought after.
