Useful Amusement

1770–90
Not on view
Seated in an interior, a fashionably-dressed young woman works at an embroidery frame. A small bird perches on the latter and a dog lies on a stool at her feet. A music box and bird cage are shown on a table below the window at left, and a lidded pot and Chinese figure stand on a cupboard at right. This is a variation of a mezzotint published by Henry Parker in London, in 1770 (see impression at the British Museum), and image that does not include the dog, bird or Chinese figure.
