Seated Woman

Lin Fengmian Chinese

Not on view

Lin Fengmian's debt to Matisse is clear in this work. His reasons for finding Matisse so compelling lay in his training in the principles of Chinese art: economy of line, decorative value of pattern, and use of empty space as form. Lin produced this work after 1977, when he was living in Hong Kong.
