Set of 12 plates of men's and women's coiffures, containing a total of 48 designs for hairstyles. The hairstyles on each plate are presented inside four simple, rectangular frames, each containing an illustration of the upper body of a woman, wearing a fashionable dress of the 1770s, decorated with ruffles, ribbons and bows of different colors, which match the fancy hairstyle that adorns her head. Most of the hairstyles contain descriptive titles that explain what the coiffures would have been used for, and most of them are for upper-class, bourgeoise or aristocratic women; some of them are for their male counterparts. They are mostly executed with pastel shades of blue and green, and bright shades of purple, yellow, green, and orange, and are decorated with large, colored feathers, strips of pearls, and thin garlands of flowers and leaves, typical of the fashionable hairstyles of the late-18th century.
