Hilton Hughes succeeded Denning’s and continued to issue artistic catalogues aimed at wealthy female customers. Unfortunately, financial overreach forced this iconic department store into bankruptcy in 1896, and today no trace of its huge premises on Broadway between Ninth and Tenth Streets remains.
