Small High-shouldered Jar

Early Dynastic Period

Not on view

This small, shouldered jar fits into the style of many vessels dated to the Early Dynastic Period. The hard stone’s crystalline structure forms a striking pattern and Early Dynastic artisans are known for choosing unusual and decorative stones for making such vessels. Small stone vessels could be found in tombs near the deceased’s face, especially if they contained pigment for outlining the eyes.
