Etruscan, Faliscan

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 170

The incense burner has three equine legs, a diagonally articulated shaft originally with a small animal running up it, and a square element at the top with four birds surrounding the container for the grains of incense. It belongs to a group of pieces made in the Faliscan area of southern Etruria.
