Smith and Wesson .32 Caliber Single-Action Revolver, serial no. 94421

Manufacturer Smith & Wesson American
Decorator Tiffany & Co.

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 199

Tiffany sold firearms decorated with elaborate silver grips from at least the 1880s. This pistol is one of nine revolvers the firm embellished for the display at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, promoting its partner-ship with Smith & Wesson. With its globular pommel and niello ornament, the design takes inspiration from earlier firearms and weapons made in the Caucasus, including the dagger nearby.
