Style of Jean Démosthène Dugourc French
Manufactured by Camille Pernon French

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 553

The firm of Camille Pernon in Lyon produced some of the most spectacular silk textiles of the late eighteenth century. They had clients all over Europe, and one of their most prolific designers, Jean Démosthène Dugourc, worked for the Spanish nobility. The dancing putti and satyr motifs in this silk are repeated in a textile designed by Dugourc for King Charles IV of Spain.
