Wall mirror
The capital of Italy’s northwestern Piedmont region, Turin was a melting pot of cultural influence from France and northern Italy, and fashionable works of decorative art such as this mirror responded to stylistic trends from these surrounding areas. The motifs on the arched top and lower edge of the frame are in the established French Rococo style, and the rich decoration and virtuosic carving of the floral garlands, combined with the large expanse of sparkling mirror glass, would have attracted aristocratic patrons like the Venetian Sagredo family.
