Simone Michieli, Canon of Verona (1498–1535)

Medalist: Fra Antonio da Brescia

Not on view

Fra Antonio's medals demonstrate his ability to render his portrait subjects with a highly descriptive realism. His style is distinguished by sober, precise portraits set in spacious compositional fields. While much remains unknown about the artist's life, he probably worked in various northern Italian cities as an itinerant friar-medalist.
