Dish

Possibly by Willem Jansz. Verstraeten Dutch

Not on view

Both the colors as well as the grotesque ornament of this piece show clear influence from Italian majolica, especially from the workshop of Orazio Fontana (1510–1571) in Urbino. This type of Dutch pottery has long been attributed to Willem Jansz Verstraeten in Haarlem but is now known to have been made in Delft as well.
