The Vestal

Workshop of Antonio Canova Italian

Not on view

Thirteen known versions of this subject were executed in plaster and marble by Canova and his workshop between 1819 and 1823. Said to closely resemble a Hellenistic bust of a woman in Naples, the so-called Zingarella, which was well-known by the eighteenth century and which may portray a dancer.
