With the slimming of the fashionable silhouette in of the second half of the 1900s, hats responded in counterpoint by becoming increasingly larger. The size and form of this hat is impressive, with its wide swath of brim accented with the popular ostrich plumes and its extraordinarily large crown, made to accommodate the large hairstyles of the period.
