Blue and red have been the traditional colors of Paris since the 14th century and make up the city's flag. This stylish skullcap would be the wearer's, in this case the ever-chic Millicent Rogers, personal tribute to the City of Lights. The saturated red and blue, in a profusion of feathers, could also be in reference to the tricolor, the symbolic red, blue and white which appeared during the French Revolution and stood for liberty, equality and fraternity. The design exhibits Schiaparelli's unique ability to infuse history and politics with fashion and make many of her designs pieces of art rather than a simple accessory or garment.
