Designed by Henry Whitney American
Manufactured by New England Glass Company American

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 706

This candlestick, whose design was patented in 1870, has as its shaft a caryatid, a Renaissance Revival motif. Although other glass manufacturers used the caryatid motif, the New England Glass Company was unique in combining it with other elements in a single mold.
