Phyllis M. Martin

Phyllis M. Martin is professor emeritus of history at Indiana University Bloomington. Her research interests on the precolonial history of the kingdom of Loango and the colonial history of the Republic of Congo and Cabinda (Angola) have taken her to those regions on four occasions. She has published several books and articles including The External Trade of the Loango Coast (1972); Leisure and Society in Colonial Brazzaville (1995); Catholic Women of Congo-Brazzaville (2009); and History of Central Africa (co-editor; 1983, 1998). She wrote the chapter "The Kingdom of Loango" in the exhibition catalogue for Kongo: Power and Majesty.
