George Makary is a Coptic icon-painter currently working from Ottawa, Canada. He studied Fine Arts at OCAD University (BFA) and Art History (MA) at the University of Toronto, with a specialization in Diasporic and Transnational Studies. His research focuses on the relationship between sacred art and its users, and he has created numerous works for communities and individuals who have commissioned him internationally. George also led icon-making demonstrations at the Cleveland Museum of Art for their presentation of Africa & Byzantium.
