Esoteric Visions: The Goddess Bhairavi Devi by the Mughal Artist Payag | Insider Insights

Join a Met curator to learn about two paintings by the artist Payag, a major talent at the 17th-century Mughal court of India. The first, an equestrian portrait of Shah Jahan demonstrates closely-observed details of worldly luxury, while the second, a painting of the formidable goddess Bhairavi explores the nature of death and the universe and represents a bridge between Indian traditions of art and philosophy.
