The Oxford Almanack for the Year of Our Lord God MDCCCXL – Church of St. Mary Magdalen
Not on view
The Oxford Almanack is a broadside printed annually to circulate a university calendar and has been published since 1674. This 1840 example includes an image of the medieval Church of St. Mary Magdalen whose north aisle was to be restored in 1841–42 by the young George Gilbert Scott (1811–1878). The church stands south of the Martyrs' Memorial (1843, also designed by Scott). The calendar below is flanked by lists of British monarchs and officers of the university.
