The portfolio Kei Viti (2023.292a–e) comprises five colour lithographs of subjects relating to Fiji where, in 1962, Charlot had been invited to decorate in fresco the interior of a mission church dedicated to Saint Peter Chanel. The portfolio has an Introduction written by Charlot that explains the genesis of the series and the title and the significance of each print. Kei Viti also reflects Charlot’s lifelong interest in indigenous art and culture. The bold colours and striking forms very much reflects his earlier lithographs many of which relate to similar subjects from a Mexican context.
150 sets were printed of which this is set 87. The series is not recorded in the catalogue raisonne of Charlot's prints by Peter Morse (published 1976, before this series was made).
