Design for a Wooden Dressing Table in the Art Nouveau Style

Design for a dressing table in the Art Nouveau style. The dressing table is made from wood, with simple carved details. The dressing table is presented against a wall, with a rug below it. A frame has been drawn around the composition, which strongly suggests this may have been a prepatory drawing for a publication. It is part of a group of drawings representing a range of furniture designs in the French Art Nouveau style, attributed to Edward Colonna and Georges de Feure. The designs are all executed in graphite and finished with watercolor. The high degree of finish of these drawings suggest that they were used for presentation to clients, or possibly served as models for lithographic illustrations. The Museum has several furniture pieces by both artists that closely relate to the present group of drawings. The design for a small side table by Colonna, in particular, show great similarities.
