Days Off represents the best known of Armstrong's stained glass book covers: the Henry Van Dyke series, published between 1901 and 1927 and mostly printed on dark blue cloth with gold stamping and ornamental symmetrical designs. In Book Decoration in America (1979), Laurie Crichton likened Days Off to a stained-glass window, noting that Armstrong, her father Maitland Armstrong (1836-1918), and her sister Helen Maitland Armstrong (1869-1948) all designed decorative glass windows.
