REALNESS 1. The quality or state of being real:
Daniel Day opened Dapper Dan’s Boutique in Manhattan’s Harlem neighborhood in 1982. Inspired by the symbolic power of branding to express status and prestige, Day silk-screened the trademarked logos of European luxury houses onto tailored suits and jackets, finding a strong following among hip-hop artists. This coat is made from leather screen-printed with Louis Vuitton’s "LV" monogram. Unlike the other fashions in this gallery, it demonstrates the reuse of a concept rather than a fabric or garment.
