The turreted corners and cabriole legs evoke a sense of movement and elasticity in the form. Similarly, the multi-dimensional carving generates dramatic depth to the surface as well as to the silhouette of the piece. The complexity of the carved relief rivals the work of premier sculptors and engravers of the period. The unique berry punchwork ornament along the skirt may be a hallmark of the carver responsible for its creation.
