Design House Louiseboulanger French

Not on view

Louise Boulanger founded the house using her contracted name on the Rue de Berri in 1923. Fashion chronicler Mary Brooks Picken remembered her: “If Paris dresses might be referred to as chic in the early 1930s, Louiseboulanger’s clothes could be called ‘superchic.’” Further, Picken attested of the designer, “Her private life was spent in the artistic milieu, and many famous painters and sculptors were her friends.” One would surmise that this blouse was keenly informed by modern art in its flat, collage-like juxtapositions, abstract textures, and trompe l’oeil aspects.
