Writing table

David Roentgen German

Not on view

The initials CA under the ducal crown indicate that this elegant writing table was among the pieces of furniture Grand Duke Karl August von Sachsen Weimar-Eisenach (1757–1828), acquired from David Roentgen for his ducal palace which was rebuilt after the disastrous fire of 1774. Roentgen made a series of trips to Weimar in 1797–98 where he met the duke and sold him some of his inventory to furnish the new Residenz Schloss.
