Parking Lot #3
Edward Ruscha American
Not on view
This photograph by Ed Ruscha is reproduced in his book Thirtyfour Parking Lots (1967). He commissioned the bird’s-eye view seen here from a professional aerial photographer, aptly named Art Alanis. Alanis recorded the parking lot scenes requested by Ruscha from a low-flying airplane on an early Sunday morning when there would be few or no cars visible. The resulting images directly connect Ruscha with the work of many of his East coast contemporaries, especially Sol LeWitt.
