Blue White Construction

Jack Youngerman American

Not on view

In his nearly seven decade long career, Youngerman has focused on the production of small-scale, two-dimensional works that explore either simplified organic forms or geometric abstraction in compositions that feature brilliant color juxtapositions. During his years in Paris and later in New York, Youngerman digested the various approaches to abstraction pursued by his contemporaries and modernist artists of the previous generation, and synthesized these developments into a unique style characterized by intimate scale, electric mixtures of color, and a continual modification of abstract forms. Blue White Construction demonstrates Youngerman’s keen interest in the cut-outs of Henri Matisse, both in its use of bright color and its medium of cut paper collage.
