Sofa

Attributed to Samuel McIntire American

Not on view

The shape of this sofa derives from plate 35 in Thomas Sheraton’s "Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Drawing-Book" (1793). The carving on the crest rail is attributed to McIntire on the basis of its similarity to that on documented examples. McIntire most likely found the design in "The Cabinet-Makers’ London Book of Prices" (1793).
