Gift basket

Pomo, Native American

Not on view

Made as gifts, these three baskets signify wealth and prestige and exhibit the inventiveness of Pomo artists. One, a small, compressed assemblage covered completely in beads, is embellished with clamshell disks and quail topknot feathers. A second has a deep translucent red ground with bead and abalone shell pendants hanging from its rim and sides. The ribbed surface of the basketry coils and the beads on the third form a distinct textural contrast.
