In addition to satire and humor, Posada created engravings for other purposes. Our Lady of Solitude was widely venerated in Mexico. Broadsides that incorporated an image, a prayer, or a description of a miracle associated with her were printed in the thousands. On the back of this print is a long text describing a miracle that took place in Saltillo (Coahuila), where the Virgin saved a young man from starvation. Posada originally created the plate for this image in the early 1890s; his plates were reprinted again and again.
