Bracelet of knots and barrel beads

Third Intermediate Period

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 126

One of five bracelets found around Henettawy’s right wrist, this strand of two-ply linen cord is strung with four carnelian and three gold barrel beads separated by seventeen regularly-spaced knots. With a total of twenty-four elements, this seems to be in keeping with the twenty-four knots found in the strings around Henettawy’s neck (see 2.53.189a–c), and is almost identical to one of the bracelets found on her left wrist (25.3.191c).
