Amitayus Trinity

Tibet

Not on view

This triad with Amitayus (Amitabha) on an openwork lotus throne flanked by two similarly enthroned Taras celebrates the symbolism of the lotus that is so essential to South Asian art. Two devotees— snake-hooded nagas, guardians of the earth’s treasures—emerge from the waters, hands raised in veneration.
