French

Not on view

Smallswords were an essential component of the dress code for gentlemen visitors to Versailles, and the finest display jewel-like decoration. The polished steel hilt is elaborately chiseled in relief, with gold foil set in the recesses and punched to yield a contrasting matte finish.
