Bronze statuette of a satyr reclining on a lion's skin

Etruscan

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

The lion's skin, which is usually associated with Herakles, introduces a light touch, suggesting that the satyr is resting after his arduous labors. The figure probably was one of several ornamenting the shoulder of a cauldron.
