Yves Saint Laurent's Rive Gauche line for women debuted in 1966, with menswear following in 1969. This men’s “Safari” jacket, based on the traditional khaki hunting uniform, is an interpretation of the “Safari” suit presented in Saint Laurent’s spring/summer 1968 “African” collection. The tunic was designed in several interations for both men and women in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Previous owner, Paul (Pavlik) Stooshnoff, is pictured wearing this example in the September 25, 1970 issue of Life magazine in an article titled “Male Plumage: Dandyism Has Returned.”
