This design for the main apse of Saint Michael’s Church in Charleston, South Carolina, shows the interior architectural decoration and stained-glass windows to be executed by Tiffany Studios. The central window depicts Saint Michael slaying the dragon. The image is based on a well-known painting by Raphael that now hangs in the Louvre. It was common practice to use old master paintings as sources for ecclesiastical stained glass. Tiffany Studios designed and installed the window in 1893 and completed the architectural decoration over a decade later, around 1905.
