Originally, this fireplace grate, with an accompanying mantelpiece (64.36.1a, b) was installed in the Tweedy House in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. Dating from about 1853, the cast iron grate is round-arched with molded edges. The door is decorated with a quatrefoil design. A railing, cast in a flower pattern, runs around the front of the grate and is surmounted by a silver-plated decorative rod.
