Leda

Aristide Maillol French

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Petrie Court Café

The title refers to the mythological seduction of Leda by Zeus in the form of a swan, but Maillol eliminated the figure of the swan and relied upon the gesture of the seated female nude alone to suggest the subject.
