Bather with Raised Arms

Aristide Maillol French
Cast by C. Valsuani

Not on view

Maillol's original version of this figure was a 9 3/4 in. high statuette, which was edited in bronze by the Paris dealer Ambroise Vollard in 1898. Around 1926 Maillol reworked and enlarged the figure, and around 1930 he again enlarged the figure to life size. A small bronze with the appearance of monumentality, this work points the way to the genuine monumentality of the life-size figure.
