Relief Fragment with Part of an Inscription

Middle Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 109

The fragment includes parts of two hieroglyphs from an inscription. The upper sign preserves part of an arm- or hand-sign painted red. Below is a blue-painted sign.

The inscription is rendered in sunk relief, which was traditionally used on exterior decoration, but in the Twelfth Dynasty is also found on interior scenes.
