Yanggum ( 양금 )

Korean

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 681

The wire-strun yanggum was assimilated into Korean music after the 18th century and is derived from hammered dulcimers brought to China by 16th-century missionaries. The inscription on the lid means "Sound of Gold, rhythm of jade."
