Metropolitan Museum Announces Promotions for Suzanne E. Brenner and Lauren A. Meserve

(New York, May 17, 2007)—The Metropolitan Museum of Art today announced that two members of its Investment Office will assume new and expanded responsibilities this month. The announcements were made by Philippe de Montebello, Director of the Museum, and Emily K. Rafferty, the Museum's President.

Suzanne E. Brenner, an eight-year veteran of the Museum currently serving as Deputy Chief Investment Officer and Associate Treasurer, has been elected by the Trustees to the post of Chief Investment Officer. Lauren A. Meserve, currently the Museum's Senior Investment Officer, will become Deputy Chief Investment Officer. The promotions were approved by the Museum's Board of Trustees.

"One of the Met's particular strengths is its highly skilled and dedicated staff," commented Mr. de Montebello. "We are justifiably proud of the exceptionally talented members of our Investment Office, on whom the institution relies for fiscal stability. The Museum's future is in capable hands with Suzanne Brenner and Lauren Meserve."

Emily Rafferty added: "As we move forward into the 21st century, cultural institutions of the size and complexity of the Met face new issues, new challenges, and new opportunities. The varied backgrounds and combined experience of Suzanne and Lauren will serve them – and the Museum – well in their new jobs, and I look forward to working with them in their new roles."

Ms. Brenner and Ms. Meserve will oversee the management of the Museum's $2.5 billion investment portfolio, including asset allocation, investment manager selection, and risk management.

Ms. Brenner has a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of music degree from City University of New York at Queens College. A certified public accountant, she has worked in the area of finance and investments since 1981. She was most recently employed at The Rockefeller Foundation. She joined the Metropolitan Museum in 1999. Ms. Brenner is married and has three children. She succeeds the late Steven G. Berstler, who held the post from 1997. Ms. Meserve earned a baccalaureate from Yale University, where she studied anthropology, and a master's degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. Since 1993, Ms. Meserve has worked in the Yale University Investments Office and at The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. She joined the Metropolitan Museum in 2002.
