(November 14, 2001) – Daniel Brodsky has been elected a Trustee of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, it was announced today by James R. Houghton, Chairman of the Museum's Board of Trustees. The election took place at the November 13 meeting of the Board.
Mr. Houghton commented on Mr. Brodsky's election: "We are delighted to welcome Daniel Brodsky to the board of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. He has long demonstrated substantial dedication not only to the Met, but to the cultural life of New York City as well through years of support for a wide variety of institutions. His expansive base of experience in the business and cultural arenas will doubtless prove invaluable assets to the Metropolitan as it continues to refine it's collections, broaden public programs, and works to guarantee continued financial stability for the future."
A longtime supporter of the Museum and its programs, Mr. Brodsky has been a member of the Real Estate Council of The Metropolitan Museum of Art since 1985, serving in a variety of leadership positions. As chairman of the council, he was a major initiator in organizing the first Real Estate Council Benefit in 1996, an annual event that greatly augmented support for the Museum's educational programs. Under his leadership, annual funding for the Real Estate Council has doubled, and a total of more than $3 million has been raised to support the Metropolitan Museum's School Tours Program.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree in Urban Planning from New York University, Mr. Brodsky worked for the Hudson River Valley Commission before joining his father, Nathan, in 1971 at The Brodsky Organization, a major developer of large-scale residential and mixed-use real estate in Manhattan.
In addition to his support of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Mr. Brodsky serves on the boards of the American Museum of Natural History, the New York City Ballet, the Municipal Art Society, and the Real Estate Board of New York. He is also a member of the Dean's Council of the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Policy of New York University. He is a former board member of the Brearley, Dalton, St. Bernard's, Trinity, and Riverdale Country Schools, and of Project Renewal (previously Manhattan Bowery Corporation), an organization that provides shelter for the homeless of New York City.
Mr. Brodsky resides in Manhattan with his wife, Estrellita; they have three children.
