(May 30, 2000) — Yungman F. Lee, President and Chief Executive Officer of the United Orient Bank, has been elected a Trustee of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. His election took place at the May 9 meeting of the Board of Trustees. Mr. Lee will serve as the Queens borough representative on the Museum's Board.
Active in public service as well as business, Mr. Lee is a former First Deputy Superintendent of Banks for New York State. In his two years at the State Banking Department, he formulated and implemented policy initiatives in such areas as community reinvestment and foreign banking. He served earlier as a New York City Tax Commissioner, appointed by the Mayor in 1988.

Houghton, Chairman of the Board, in making the announcement. "Yungman Lee has distinguished himself in both the private and public sectors, demonstrating leadership and energy in a number of important endeavors. He will be a valuable addition to the Board of the Museum, and we heartily welcome him as a Trustee."
A graduate of Columbia University, with a law degree from New York University, Mr. Lee began his career as an attorney with Shearman & Sterling. In 1984 he was a founding partner of Lee, Lee & Ling, Esqs., a law practice concentrating on business, banking, and real estate. He joined the United Orient Bank in 1994.
Yungman Lee is a member of the board of directors of the New York State Bankers Association, the Chinatown Health Clinic, and Forest Hills Community House. He was president of the Chinese-American Bankers Association from 1995 to 1997, and has served since 1996 as a member of the Northeastern region advisory board of Fannie Mae.
Among his many awards is the 1998 Asian-American for Equality Community Service Award, the New York-Chinese American Planning Council award for outstanding community service, and the Ellis Island Congressional medal of honor.
Mr. Lee is a resident of Forest Hills, Queens.
