Not on view

This image of dried lotus stalks and their mirrored reflections in a tranquil pond blends naturalism and abstraction in a manner often seen in traditional Chinese flower paintings. Without the narrow stretch of reflected landscape along the upper edge, the strong linearity of the imagery against the “blank” surface of the water could readily make the work resemble a piece of calligraphy. The geometric shapes serendipitously created by the reflections enrich the composition with a modernist flair.
