This carved mahogany box resembling a stack of four books, has a fifth smaller book on top that contains a puzzle mechanism concealing the brass handle of a latching mechanism. The case interior consists of two lidded compartments lined in gold paper, each with a bone or ivory knob. The cover of the small box, the larger cover below and interior lids are inlaid with geometric patterns of different woods.
