Hinged box, M. Hellmers
Both covers of this engraved box are identical with the exception of the name M. Hellmers on the front, engraved parallel with the foredge. The covers have thin, raised edges, with engraved border made of dotted lines and three-loved floral motifs in the corners. An engraved leafy two-flowered motif is in the center of each cover. All edges are striated to resemble pages. The spine has five raised bands, evenly spaced. -- description by Mindell Dubansky in consultation with Lynn Heckman
